Brian Lawson

Brian D. Lawson is Senior Managing Partner and Chief Financial Officer at Brookfield Asset Management (Formerly, Brascan Corp.). Brian has held senior management positions within Brookfield since the early 1990’s. As Chief Financial Officer, Brian is responsible for Brookfield’s financial reporting, risk management and funding activities of the organization including the co-ordination of all group capital markets activities and relationships with the banking investment community.
In 1983 Brian joined the audit practice of Touche Ross & Co. (now Deloitte & Touche) and moved to Brookfield Asset Management Inc. in late 1988. Brian’s time was spent mostly in the company’s restructuring, merchant banking and investment banking operations until 2002 when he was appointed Chief Financial Officer. As part of his responsibilities, Brian has served as an officer and/or director of a number of Brookfield investees and affiliates and sits on a number of the company’s investment committees.
Brian graduated from Trinity College School (Port Hope, ON) in 1978, and Trinity College, University of Toronto (Bachelor of Arts) in 1983. Brian served as a member of the Trinity College School Board of Governors from 1998 to 2003 and is currently a Director and Chair of the Finance Committee for the School’s Foundation.
Brian and his wife, Joannah, live in Toronto and have three children, Tristan, Alexander and Gillian.
